Meet Jason Rockson, our lead mechanic and designer

Jason has been working in the heating, ventilation, air condition and refrigeration (HVAC/R) industry since 1993.  He completed his apprenticeship training in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he was exposed to virtually all facets of the industry.  From heavy industrial and manufacturing to light commercial and residential, he has a wide base of knowledge and the ability to apply it. Jason moved with his family to Vancouver Island where he took on the new challenge of working as a sales person and area technical rep for one of the larger national wholesalers and manufacturers reps in the industry in 2003.  However, Jason’s true calling was working hands on so in 2007 he, along with his wife Mari Ann, founded Mercury Refrigeration Products and Services Ltd.

Jason is a red seal (inter provincial) qualified refrigeration journeyman and has taken additional training in gas fitting, electrical, hydronic and geothermal heating systems.  Currently Jason is one of the few Canadian GeoExchange Coalition accredited installers and designers on the island.  As a sales person Jason became a product and troubleshooting expert perfecting his professional skills as the person who was called in when no one else could solve a problem.  During these years he also took regular training on new products and innovations.

In 2006 Jason was asked to become the island trainer for the Thermal Environmental Comfort Association of BC (TECA - www.teca.ca).  Several times a year he teaches other industry professionals and qualifies them for residential ventilation requirements and heat loss & heat gain calculations.  Late in 2008 Jason was called upon as an industry expert to collaborate on the writing of the exam material for the Certified Geothermal Technician program developed by TECA and GeoExchange BC ( www.geoexchangebc.com )and sponsored by the Residential Construction Industry Training Organization. Jason is on the TECA ventilation committee that helps recommend improvements for the ventilation section of the BC building code.

Jason was part of a technical committee asked by CITO to write the new curriculum and exam bank for the refrigeration apprenticeship program in BC in 2011 and 2012.

Jason joined Vancouver Island University as an instructor in their Green Building & Renewable Energy Technician diploma program in the fall of 2009 and 2010.  He taught the Geoexchange Systems course.

At the Geoexchange BC 2011 Conference Jason joined the board of directors of Geoexchange BC. He is now vice chair of Geoexchange BC.

Molly the Spaniel - Duncan, BC:

Jason, Trevor & Steve

Even though this pooch is no where near as good looking as me, this picture will have to do. I am now a very uniformly toasty dog and it’s all thanks to you. Not only have you been really nice to me, but you have distinguished yourselves with your skill and craftsmanship. And I kinda like your taste in dog cookies. (Here are a few home made cookies for you, with NO nuts.)

My masters and I thank you for a great job!

Molly (the spaniel)
